Happy 2018! Do you have sewing resolutions for the year, or any resolutions at all? I have to admit to not making any – but who needs them when you’re already doing what you love?!?!? I would like to spend more time in 2018 quilting with my scraps, which have grown alarmingly over the past few years. Since I normally use pre-cuts, this will take some planning to accomplish.
This week’s Free Pattern Friday can be used with scraps!
The pattern calls for a jelly roll, but since you cut the strips lengthwise, you might as well just dive into your scrap pile! A neutral background like this gray helps unify a wild color palate, so you don’t have to sort your scraps unless you want to.
The pattern is from Robert Kaufman and finishes at 58″ square, but the block construction (and your use of unlimited scraps!) means that you can easily expand this quilt to a bed size. It’s geared towards a confident beginner, and although it looks like you are sewing lots of tiny pieces together, you are really just sewing long thin pieces together and then dicing them up later. In fact, if you are using scraps you will get an even better variation in the blocks than is shown in the cover picture.
Have a great weekend!
