I’ve been really enjoying Art Gallery Fabrics, lately. I still haven’t actually quilted with any of them, but one of these days I’ll change that!
This week’s free pattern uses Fiesta Fun fabric by Dana Willard. My favorite fabrics in this line are Mexican Dress Midnight and Zocalo Raspberry. You won’t be surprised to see that they are both highly saturated colors!
The pattern isn’t very complicated – you are cutting squares and adding sashing. It is set on point after you get the whole quilt together and trim the edges to achieve the look. Short and sweet, and much easier than using setting triangles.
Of course I can’t let an opportunity go by to “improve” on the pattern. The squares are 6.5″ before sashing – I would either go with charm squares at 5″ or even better two layer cakes with a jelly roll for the sashing. Why cut when you have such an easy option available to you?
I don’t think that AGF has pre-cuts, so my time saving plan would need to be done in a different fabric line. I have a friend who has GO! dies to make pre-cuts, but it’s a big investment for a small store to buy one bolt of each fabric in a line.
Here are the instructions for the quilt.
